Steps to Success in School

We all want to be successful. I really don' t believe that anyone wants to fail. Also, I think most parents desire true success for their children. However, it seems that both parents and students do not know what it takes to succeed.

What does it take to succeed? It' s the same as it has always been, work a bit longer than what others are willing to do and spend a little more time planning instead of playing and you will be successful. Extremely successful.

So, here are some tips for you that will help make success more obtainable.

  1. Focus on your goals constantly. Write your goals down and put them in a place where you will be reminded of them.

  2. Create a healthy and personalized study environment. Some people need complete silence; some need background noise (instrumental music, white noise, etc.) Some work best sitting at a desk, some lying on a bed. Build the environment that works best for you, but be honest; you can listen to your favorite band at other times.

  3. Organize your notes. Number the pages and keep them in a notebook in the order you received them. Highlight the terms, names, and facts that seem to stand out or be most prevalent.

  4. Develop a study group with other serious students. Compare and exchange notes to study.

  5. Do a little homework everyday. Even if you just study your notes, do something to keep the information fresh in your mind.

  6. Tutor someone. You learn more when you teach and you will be investing in someone else, which reaps its own rewards.

  7. Write things down! Writing involves two additional senses beyond hearing. This multiplies the retention by at least 40%. Even things like assignments, due dates, assigned reading, anything else you think is important.

  8. Read, Read, Read everything assigned and take notes on it.

  9. Don' t miss class! Be in class on time, every time.

  10. Sit in the front of the class. If you can't sit in the front, ask the teacher to seat you away from your friends or others who might distract you.

  11. Drill the material! Have your parents or siblings quiz you regularly.

  12. Cut your TV time! Television can be great but it can also be a waste of time. If you are serious about success you will limit your TV consumption.

  13. Choose your friends wisely. You need to associate with others who think like you. "Iron sharpens Iron."

  14. Believe You can do it. You are what you think you are.

You now have two options:

  • Pay now and play later or
  • Play now and pay later.

The choice is yours, but choosing to play now and pay later will have a significant amount of interest added on to the principal and cost you much more.

However, make the decision to pay now and you will reap great rewards in the future.
